Dodgers, Astros take long road to World Series

The World Series will feature the two teams that had the best record at the midseason mark in the Dodgers and the Astros.

They will begin playing Tuesday, Oct. 24 with the first game in Los Angeles at 7 p.m. Central time. They both have proven themselves and that they both deserve to be in the World Series.

“I think the Dodgers will win. They have the most complete team: good rotation, good bullpen, and great hitting,” Paul Jones, junior, said.

The Cubs vs Dodgers series was a rematch of last year’s NLCS that ended in the Cubs ending their 108-year championship drought.

The NLCS was dominated by the Dodgers, having to go five games before they clinched their spot in the World Series. They only allowed the Cubs to score 8 runs in five games. They looked like the better team the whole series.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon decided to give the ball to Brian Duensing and John Lackey instead of his closer Wade Davis in a tie game in the 9th inning. The Dodgers scored the winning runs in that inning on a Justin Turner home run. The Dodgers then never looked back and won the series on a blowout in Game 5, 11-1.

The ALCS was an interesting matchup going 7 games with the Yankees vs Astros series having one team with the most championships ever and one with none.

The Astros looked in control when they won the first two games in Houston by scores of 2-1 both games on terrific pitching performances by Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel.

The series then went to New York and the Yankees won all three games there comfortably. Their bats came alive and they took control of the series and all the momentum.

When the series went back to Houston, it was much of the same for the Astros, holding the Yankees to 1 run combined in both games and pitching their way into the World Series.

The divisional matchups got pretty exciting with two of the series coming down to a deciding Game 5 in the best-of-three series.

The Astros and the Dodgers each won their series with the Astros beating the Red Sox in four games and the Dodgers sweeping the Diamondbacks. The Astros were powered by good timely hitting and by pretty good pitching. The Dodgers’ hitting came through for them in Games 1 and 2, while their pitching came through for them in Game 3

The Indians-Yankees matchup and the Cubs-Nationals matchup each came down to a decisive Game 5.

The Cubs won Games 1 and 3 powered by their pitching and the Nationals won Games 2 and 4 powered by their pitching. Game 5 came down to who had the clutchest hitting and didn’t make many errors and the Cubs ended up edging the Nationals 9-8.

The Indians won Games 1 and 2  with some good pitching in Game 1 and some good hitting in Game 2. The Yankees came back and reeled off three straight wins with the Indians’ bats going cold. The Yankees and Cubs will now advance to the ALCS and to the NLCS.

The MLB playoffs began on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 with the two wild card games playing. The Yankees beat the Twins by a score of 8-4 and the Diamondbacks beat the Rockies by a score of 11-8 for both teams to advance to the Divisional Series.
