Griffin goes to Pistons

The Clippers made a move that tells everyone in the league they plan on rebuilding during the offseason.

The Clippers traded Blake Griffin, Brice Johnson, and Willie Reed for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, and a first-round draft pick and a second-round draft pick.

The Pistons, with this trade, made it clear that they are trying to contend for a long time. They have added one of the best veterans in the league right now. Griffin will be able to play with Andre Drummond well, as they both pass very well for their positions. Griffin averages 5.5 assists while Drummond averages close to four assists with 3.8 assists.

The Pistons gave up one of their core players in Tobias Harris but in return received an upgraded core player. The Pistons starting lineup is Drummond at center, Griffin at power forward, Stanley Johnson at the small forward, Reggie Bullock at shooting guard, and Ish Smith replacing the injured Reggie Jackson at point guard. On paper the Pistons look like they can compete for the middle-to-lower seeds in the East.

Unfortunately in the NBA, we have yet to see a team be dominant in the league with two dominant big men. For example, the New Orleans Pelicans have yet to show the can dominant with Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins. For the Pelicans, they probably won’t be able to see what the two superstars can do together because Cousins will be an unrestricted free agent. Teams will give up a lot of money to receive a one-of-a-kind center like Cousins. Plus teams like the Celtics, Bucks, Spurs, Trail Blazers, Wizards, and Raptors could be possibly championship contenders if the Cousins.

So for the Pistons, this will be an experiment that will take a couple of years to get the best out of Griffin and Drummond. For the Pistons front office, they need to get shooters and perimeter defenders to get the best out of their dynamic duo.
