Although it couldn’t be perfect, Homecoming was one you didn’t forget.

A Night to Remember was the theme of MCHS 2008 Homecoming, and it was an unforgettable night for students.

As Homecoming Week of Sept. 22- 27 finally arrived, students kicked off the week with a crazy pep assembly. A new tradition started that year when the pep assembly was on a Monday.

“I’m really glad the pep assembly was changed to Monday because it was a much better way to start off the week. It will help us all be pumped for the coming week,” Shannon Calus, senior, said in an article in the Sept. 11, 2008, Peace Pipe Chatter. 

As the week went on and the dance approached, MCHS celebrated each day differently. Events were held at Central Campus, and Tuesday night was Battle of the Bands. On Wednesday, girls played an eventful powder puff game. And Thursday had a one-of-a-kind spirit competition.

Friday was the big day for football players. Varsity’s game began and everyone wished for nothing but a win. The 2008-09 yearbook reported that Oswego East put up a fight, but Minooka crushed the Wolves with a score of 31-7.

Saturday was the last day of Homecoming Week and finally the dance. This was the first ever dance that took place at South Campus.

“I think it’s nice they are using the new campus. It will be a refreshing change in scenery for the dance. Senior Homecoming is going to be great,” Samantha Claysen, senior, said then.

The dance was split into two dance rooms — one in the cafeteria and the other in the gymnasium. This new tradition wasn’t enjoyed by everyone that attended the dance.

“It was stupid having the dance in two rooms. You’d be in one room and then go to the other and hear the same song,” Sara Placher, freshman, said in the Oct. 23, 2008 Peace Pipe Chatter.

The night ended in all smiles, David Haldeman became 2008 Homecoming king, and Alexandra Hill was crowned Homecoming queen.
