Luke Petrovic competes early in the season at Heritage Bluffs.

MCHS boys varsity golf team had a close to perfect season record. They ended with a 10-1 overall record, 9-1 in the SPC.

I thought the golf team had a super successful season again this year,” Brian Petrovic, head coach, said.  “Although we did not win the conference tournament, finishing in 2nd place, there were an awful lot of highlights.  Dylan Pfieffer finished 2nd in the overall SPC points race and missed being the MVP player of the SPC this year by a single point.”

With the second-place finish in conference, Pfieffer, senior; Matthew Sitar, junior; Kevin Phillips, sophomore; and Luke Petrovic, sophomore, all earned all-conference honors.

“Being all-conference was the goal from the start, and I’m very glad to accomplish it,” Sitar, junior, said.

Their tournament play was solid. There first-place finishes were the Ottawa Invite and Oswego Invite. They finished second in the Lincoln-Way Central Invite and the Minooka Invite. Third-place finishes included the Batavia Tournament and the Lemont Invite.

Sectional qualifiers were Petrovic, Sitar, and Pfieffer. Pfieffer was the only golfer to qualify for state and ended up placing 71st.

“The best part about state was the first 14 holes, when I was shooting best and in the top 10,” Pfieffer, senior, said.

Petrovic was pleased with his athletes.

“I am super happy with the kids play this season, but we are already hard at work improving our swings and our games for next year.  It is extremely sad to see our seniors leave, but we wish them success in the future as we look to get back on top of the conference next year,” he said.

The 2018 season was successful for the Indians. This was a young, talented team that has a lot of upside going into next season.
