The boys golf team advanced to sectionals with a second-place finish at regionals.

After going 8-2 last season, the Minooka boys golf team looks to continue their success.

“We want to win a conference championship,” head coach Brian Petrovic said. “The big thing for us is we want to get as many guys into the postseason and down to the state tournament as we possibly can.”

Minooka had four golfers qualify for sectionals last season, including Kevin Phillips and reigning SPC MVP golfer of the year, Luke Petrovic, who are both returning for their senior years.

“Hopefully we can at least replicate what we did last year and have some good production from the newcomers,” senior Luke Petrovic said.

Minooka lost many seniors to graduation last year, which means the varsity team will have some new faces to look out for this year, including freshman Carter Stephenson.

“He shows a lot of promise,” Petrovic said. “We don’t have the same amount of depth that we have had in years past, so we elected to bring Carter up to varsity as a freshman to get him some experience.”

Minooka plays in the Ottawa Invite on Sept. 14.
