The varsity dance team won the SPC title again this year.

The competitive dance team took first place in the SPC Conference after their great performance Feb. 18.

The girls filmed their dance a few days prior to the judging.

“We prepared for this competition the same way we prepare for all of our competitions,” head coach Melissa Wallace said. “We spent our practice time cleaning up movements and executing technique with 100% accuracy, and we spent out of practice time breaking down film while having the athletes watch for self and team improvements.”

The poms team finished with an impressive 95 points to take the win.

“It helped our team gain the confidence in ourselves to work even harder for sectionals and state,” senior dancer Lilli Beeler said. “We had already put in so much effort and it was starting to pay off.”

“The seniors really set the tone for the season and each competition. They are our leaders,” Wallace said. “They have done an excellent job with leading with level heads and keeping focus on things that we can control: how we prepare and how we compete.”

They were not done there, though. The poms would go on to capture a sectional title and finish third at state.

**An early version of this story incorrectly reported that the dance team received one of the highest scores in the entire state of Illinois at conference.  It happened at sectionals instead. We regret the error.
