The JV boys golf team finished their regular season with an 8-2 record.

After the JV boys golf team’s first round at Blackberry Oaks on Sept. 2, they thought they would be set.

The team faced up against the Oswego East golf team. Minooka would bring only eight of their 10 players – Keegan Reilly, Ethan Walsh, Lucas Heap, Will Johnson, Coye Hefner, Matt Sergeant, Adam Cook, and Cam Swanson. When they would get there they would head to the driving range to prepare for the match. The team would set out for the first tee box.

As the round was going left and right, there would be several shots out of bounds. Many would fall to the water.

“We just need to work on not taking so many penalty shots,” said coach Brian Petrovic.

The big hitters for the team are Reilly and Johnson. They were the only ones to attack most holes, but that would not be the case for everyone who would try and attack the holes. It would cause some of them to hit it into the rough, out of bounds, and into sand, causing a harder approach shot. This course was challenging for the team.

As everyone came in, their faces showed they were exhausted from the heat and the length of the course.

The scores were Reilly with a 44, Heap with a 49, Johnson with a 52, Swanson with a 51, Cook with a 63, Walsh with a 57, Hefner with a 55, and Sergeant with a 56.

“We played badly at Blackberry Oaks,” Sergeant said.

Johnson also agreed that it wasn’t Minooka’s best performance.

The team would use the scores of Reilly, Heap, Johnson, and Swanson for a total of 196. Minooka would end up winning the match by 6 strokes over the Wolves.

“We didn’t play our best, but we played good enough to win,” said Petrovic.

Ethan Walsh is a member of the Minooka JV boys golf team.
