The varsity boys golf team beat Plainfield East on Sept. 7.

With a few well-needed low scores, the varsity boys golf team was able to pull away with a 23-stroke win versus Plainfield East at Wedgewood golf course.

Four golfers scores were taken in the Sept. 7 meet: TJ Quinn, Carter Stephenson, Luke Purcell, and Brett Widlowski. Lowest scores begin with Quinn, who shot a 37, 1 over par. Then Stephenson, who shot 38, 2 over par. Followed by Widlowski with a 40, 4 over par. And lastly Purcell with a 41, 5 over par.

Playing an away course can always be difficult for golfers, but this was no struggle for the Minooka boys.

“Wasn’t our home course, but the boys played really really well,” said head coach Jeff Petrovic.

It was a great day for golf, and it showed with the team’s score.

“The conditions were perfect and the team fought to a well deserved victory,” said Quinn.

The team’s overall score was 156, compared to East’s 179.

“Always great to get a 37 and a 38, certainly shapes up for a good team score,” Petrovic said.

The boys were successful due to keeping the ball in bounds, and limiting strokes on their short game and putting. Perfect conditions, phenomenal short game, and low scores, are the perfect recipe for a big win, like the boys had at Wedgewood on the 7th.
