Junior Troy Hudak brings the ball up the court against Oswego on Nov. 29. Oswego won the game, 68-43.

Oswego’s pressure on defense gave them a win over Minooka’s boys varsity basketball team on Nov. 29.

In their first conference game, Minooka lost, 68-43. The Indians came into this game with a record of 1-3.

At the end the first quarter, the score was 11-10 in favor of Oswego.

The team in the first quarter played well. Hard fought and tough-nosed,” head coach Kevin Cain said.

When the second quarter started it was more of the same, but that changed towards the end.

“Last 4 minutes of the second quarter we didn’t do our job and Oswego exposed us on both sides of the ball,” Cain said.

Going into half the score was 37-16 with Oswego leading. Minooka did not let the deficit keep them from giving full effort and coming out in the third quarter and being competitive.

That effort showed in the fourth quarter when the Indians outscored the Panthers 16-12.

The Indians top scorer was junior Jahmai McCoy, who had 10 points while 4/4 from the field and 2/2 from 3 points.

Another standout from the Indians was junior Micah Hamilton who had 9 points while shooting over 50% from the field.

The feeling after the game was not great for Minooka.

“We were definitely disappointed because we thought we could do better and we did not play to our level of expectation,” senior Joe Wunar said.

Senior Silas Slavik said, ”We just need to find our groove and go from there.”

The boys will have another chance against the Panthers later in the season.
