The Class of ’25 enters this year’s annual powder puff game undefeated after beating last year’s graduating class.
They are destined to leave Minooka undefeated in the much-anticipated powder puff matchup between the junior class and the senior class on Sept. 16. In years past, the senior class has came up short. Will that story be the same or will the seniors flip the script?
Senior Kenzie Vogt who was part of the winning side last year, is feeling confident that the juniors won’t have much of a chance to win this year.
“I feel our chances are pretty high,” Vogt said. “My game plan is to have fun but still have the competitive mindset to win the game.”
This year’s seniors are riding high off their upset over the seniors last year, but any team can lose any game at any given time. The seniors last year thought they had the game wrapped up after leading 12-0 at the end of the first half. But the juniors stormed back to upset the seniors 19-12.
“I’m feeling good because the same energy is there as last year,” senior Kira Cailteux said. “I truly think it will be a good game and plan to keep silent on our chances for the game.”
Cailteux said the seniors need to play smart.
“Girls were too cocky in years past, and I think going into the game supporting each other and being smart about what you say in advance sets the mentality for when the clock starts,” she said.
The seniors have confidence in themselves to win this game. But, what stands in their way is a junior class with hope to upset the seniors.
“We need to come out fast and not flat,” junior Addison Cailteux said. “We have some very good athletes on our side if we all show up to play we will be just fine.”
The seniors have last year’s win on their side, but it has been three years since the senior class has won a powder puff game.
“If we are aggressive all game and don’t give up, we have a shot,” junior Sabina Charlebois said.
The seniors have the experience, but the junior have hunger.
“They have a year in advance on us which shows in practice, but if we keep the game in our hands I think we have a good shot to upset them this year,” junior Maddie Dostall said.
