When the girls varsity basketball team’s season was to finally start after the IHSA gave the okay, they then had another delay with a COVID case on the team.

The girls ended up having their first game on Feb. 11. When the girls were able to step on the court again, they could not have been more ecstatic.

“When I got back on the court I was so excited to just play my senior year since I knew it would be my last time on the court,” Maizy Caves, senior, said. 

There were many difficulties for these players this year due to the pandemic but they had to make the most of it. 

“It feels weird playing with a mask on, and it’s very different, but we’re making the best of it. Sometimes we have to pull our masks down to breath but other than that it is not that bad,” Aalyah Callaway, senior, said. 

The girls while got to see the bright side of the circumstances that were given to them.

“I think some good things coming out of this season are that we just get to play. Especially for the girls coming back next year, they get to play with each other on the court and know what works as a team and then next season they will come back even better than they are now,” Caves, said. 

Everyone had their doubts about being able to play this year or not but they never gave up.

“I never gave up hope that it wouldn’t be taken away all together but there were times I was doubtful,” Tea Milazzo, senior, said.

This season the girls won against Plainfield South, Plainfield Central, Plainfield East, Yorkville and West Aurora. They ended the season with a 5-9 overall record, and 5-6 in the conference.
