The girl volleyball team celebrates their win over Plainfield Central on Nov. 3. Minooka won the sectional title.

It had been 17 years since Minooka girls volleyball won a sectional championship.

Thursday night, the Indians dominated Plainfield Central, winning in two games to take home the Romeoville sectional title. The final scores of the game were 25-14 and 25-20.

“Plainfield Central was one of our biggest rivals during conference. We took the loss hard during our regular season, and to be able to beat them during sectionals is better than anything,” Brooklyn Backmann, senior, said.

The rematch could not have had higher stakes.

“There was a lot of pressure on them to win again, and a lot of pressure for us to win again since we were the ‘underdogs’ in this game,” Bella Dailey, junior, said.

The team kept the energy alive throughout the entire game. Indian Nation came out with a Black Out theme for support.

“Indian Nation has done a phenomenal job of coming out and supporting us. I really think that so many of them showed up helped to intimidate the other team,” Bachmann said.

Junior Rocky Perinar made the winning kill that is sending the team to the super sectional game.

“I knew that Brooklyn was going to set me up the second Ali (Papesh) received the ball. I just knew I had to put it down,” Perinar said. “There are no words to describe how happy I was when we were presented the plaque.”

“I am so incredibly proud of my girls tonight. They really pushed to make this a victory for us. I hope that we carry this momentum into our next game,” Ms. Carrie Prosek, head coach, said.

The super sectional game will take place Saturday against Normal Community at Normal Community High School at 1 p.m.
