As they near the postseason, the girls basketball team has been having an outstanding year. They have been doing what they know best, and that is working hard and constantly improving.

After starting off the season with a record of 3-2, only losing to Lyons Township and Oswego East, the Indians have won eight games in a row.

“The season so far has been going pretty great. We are working together very well and we can see that during the games. We don’t always play teams that are up to our level of play, but no matter what team we play I have seen full effort from everyone,” Hailey Arlis, senior, said.

Only losing to Oswego East once in the conference, the girls are 8-1 in the conference.

On Jan. 10, the Minooka girls basketball teams got things rolling early in the game. The Indians scored the first 15 points of the game and beat one of their conference opponents, Oswego, 70-30. Senior Brooklyn Bachmann led Minooka with 22 points, with junior Jenna Roberts adding 12 and sophomore Savannah Johnson 11.

“The season has been good I think the team is really clicking. I think we can make it far this season because this team is really special,” Bachmann said.

On Jan. 20, the girls played a tough game against their conference opponent Plainfield East. With the Bengals only losing four games before they played the Indians, the girls knew they had to go into this game strong and ready to compete. The Indians were able to pull out a win against Plainfield East, 56-44.

“Friday’s game against Plainfield East was intense and we knew it was going to be. Before playing us they had only lost four games and they are a decent team. The game was pretty close the entire time but everyone put in their best effort and we pulled out a win,” Arlis said.

As the Indians get later into the season, they are making sure they are staying focused to finish the regular season strong, but are still preparing for the playoffs that will be starting next month.

“We have about six games left before playoffs so we just want to keep playing well so that we are ready for playoffs,” Roberts said.

There are six games left in the regular season and then playoffs will kick off in February. The Indians next home game will be against Plainfield Central on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

“As we get later into the season we plan to focus mostly on our defense and are excited to see the rankings for the post season. Overall the season is on the right track for us and we are looking forward to seeing how far we go,” Arlis said.
