Hailey Arlis holds up the Southwest Prairie League Conference Championship plaque while the MCHS girls soccer team celebrates their first conference championship in 36 years at home on Senior Night, May 9, 2017.

Winning a regional last year was just the beginning for what the girls soccer team wants to accomplish this year. With 10 out of 11 starters returning for this upcoming year, this season looks like it could be a special season.

Last year, they went 17-5 and 9-0 in conference, winning the SPC title for the first time in school history, while winning a regional title on top of that. This year they have their eyes set on state.

“I’m looking for our team to challenge each other in practices everyday, and take that next step as a team,” Mr. Chris Brolley, head coach, said.

Every team in the state hopes to win state and hold up the state championship trophy, but for this team, this hope can become a reality.

“Making it to state is every team’s goal, and that’s no different here. Have a dream, see it, and believe it,” Brolley said.

The team is really looking to capitalize on their experiences from last year and are hoping that it will help them later in the season.

Their first game will be a rematch from last year’s loss against Waubonsie Valley on March 13.

“Last year we came into the Waubonsie game out of shape and unprepared. A big thing coach Brolley has been preaching to us at practice was understanding we need to be at our best for this year,” sophomore Mia Alessio said.
