A win over the Yorkville Foxes on Feb. 5 gave the Minooka girls basketball team 25 wins for the season, a new school record.

It was Senior Night, and senior Savannah Johnson finished the game with a team high 22 points.

“Considering that one of our key players had gotten injured earlier in the season, everyone stepped up to make a difference.  Everyone was able to get in this game and contribute to a great win,” said Johnson.

The girls began the game as they have the whole season.  Averaging 14.8 points in the first quarter, Minooka scored 16 in the first against Yorkville.  They lost the third quarter, but came back with a strong fourth, shutting out Yorkville

The senior leadership on this year’s team has been a huge part of its success.  Senior Cierra Bachmann contributed as she always does as well.

“This Yorkville game gave us a good look into regionals,” Bachmann said. “Everyone played well, and we were really focused on getting everyone involved.”

The girls begin regionals on Feb. 13, playing the winner of Yorkville and Lockport after receiving a bye for the first round.
