The boys golf team advanced to sectionals with a second-place finish at regionals.

Senior Luke Petrovic was Minooka’s best golfer at the Rock Island regional, shooting a 73, including a hole-in-one on hole three, en route to his individual win on Oct. 6.

“I had a hole-in-one in practice earlier this season,” Petrovic said. “But it was cool to get one in competition and help the team win.”

Senior Kevin Phillips shot a 78 and helped the team clinch second place with a score of 333 and qualify for sectionals. Pekin won the regional with a score of 304.

“I didn’t feel great out there,” Phillips said. “But I was able to go out there and grind out a good score.”

Two other key golfers were senior Dallas Reavis, who shot a 89, and freshman Carter Stephenson, who shot a 92. The four aforementioned above were Minooka’s top golfers at regionals and helped propel the team to sectionals.  Because of COVID-19, there will be no state competition this year.

“It was truly a team effort,” coach Petrovic said. “Luke and Kevin did most of the heavy lifting, but everyone did their part to help us be successful.”

Minooka traveled to Lick Creek in Pekin for sectionals on Oct. 12 where they finished 8th.
