Freshman Cassie Fuhrman was 8th at the SPC Meet on Oct. 16. She ran the seventh-fastest time ever on the course for a Minooka freshman girl.

The varsity girls cross country had some key highlights at the SPC West Conference Championship on Oct. 16.

Sophomore Gabby Kics took first place individually with a time of 17:56, and Minooka finished 4th place as a team with 75 points

“Gabby Kics, she ran an incredible race,” head coach Kevin Gummerson said. “She has raced these girls before and had learned something from each race.”

Cassie Fuhrman took 8th place with a time of 18:47, which led her to become an all-conference athlete. She also ran the seventh-fastest course time for a Minooka freshman. The race was held at Channahon Community Park.

“Freshman Cassie Fuhrman stepped up as well. To finish as an all-conference athlete in this conference is a very challenging task,” Gummerson said.

Yorkville won the meet, with Oswego East second, and Oswego third.

“Obviously Yorkville always brings a lot of competition but clearly both of the Oswegos were also strong teams,” Kics said.
