The varsity girls lacrosse game opens up away against Metea Valley on March 16.

“We have a lot of young girls,” senior lacrosse player Kylie Colbert said. “I think it is gonna be fun to play with them, have some new faces on the field and hopefully get a lot of wins this year.”

In a Covid-shorten season last year, the Minooka girls varsity lacrosse team finished 4-10 overall.

Colbert said she and her teammates have been putting in the work to get ready for this season.

“I have been working out a lot. One thing I like to do the most is run 4 miles a day,” Colbert said.

Senior Jayden Ambrose has also been preparing.

“I’ve been playing a lot of wall ball and doing lots of conditioning in and out of pre-season training,”  she said.

The team only had positive things to say about this season.

Colbert thinks they are gonna be good even with this young team.

Ambrose said her team’s defense is what is going to win them games.

“I think we are going to be better this year with our strong defense, which is going to help us out a lot,” Ambrose said.

Colbert believes this team is already close and connected with only knowing them for about three weeks now.

“I think it helps that we have the senior leaders to help, but I think we are already pretty close as a team, and that helps a lot when it comes to games cause they are gonna come up fast so we gotta be ready,” Colbert said.

Ambrose had some nice things to say about her varsity roster, too.

“I think we are gonna be good. Our seniors are going to lead but we have the young girls filling in and helping us out wherever they are needed on the field for us to help us win games,” Ambrose said.

The girls varsity lacrosse takes the field for the first time this year March 16 at Metea Valley at 7 p.m.
