The boys tennis team is looking forward to a good 2022 season.

Last year in a Covid-shortened season, the boys tennis team finished 7-5 overall, and 6-4 in conference.

The 2021 IHSA tennis sectional tournament was hosted here at Minooka, and Minooka’s Manny Campuzano finished fourth in the tournament for singles, and the team finished sixth overall.

The boys tennis team continues to grow as they welcome a new and third coach for the 2022 season.

“Mr. Josh Plese, a math teacher at South, joined the coaching staff this year,” head coach Trevor Shields said.

The team is excited for his arrival this season.

The tennis team has multiple returning players, many of which are four-year players. Some of these seniors returning are Hayden dela Cruz, Aaron Devore, Brady Binkowski, and Nathan Van Drie. Also, others like Zach Knaub, a junior, are returning.

Tennis can be a difficult sport, both physically and mentally.

“The toughest part is the mental side of the game,” Dela Cruz said.

Players have high hopes for the coming season.

“I think it will be a great season, we will have lots of returning players,” Knaub said.

Shields has faith that the boys will be competitive and successful this season.

“As long as athletes are giving it their all in practice and matches, we will be competitive,” Shields said.
