Freshman defender Kameron Kapellas moves the ball up the field in a game on Aug. 31 against Plainfield East.

Center attack mid Jamie Franson scored a goal for Minooka with about 15 minutes left to tie the game for the freshman soccer team against Andrew High School.

Franson’s goal come after a rough first half against the Thunderbolts on Sept. 2

In the first 5 minutes, Franson got a yellow card for trying to block the goalies punt and had to be subbed out for a few minutes.

¨I felt kinda mad and didn’t feel like I deserved it, but I was very eager to get back on the field,¨ Franson said.

In the first half of the game, the Indians were creating chances but could not score any. Minooka goalie Preston Klug had a few saves in the first half.

Entering the second half, Minooka was down 1-0 .

Aidan Gubbins, Minooka center defensive mid, showed lots of leadership, effort, and hustle throughout the first half.

¨I felt that we could still take the win over Andrew if we have more energy,” Gubbins said.

The second half started pretty slowly until about 15 minutes left when Minooka central defensive midfielder Buc Petrovic passed the ball to Franson. He took the ball up to a few yards outside of the 18-yard box and then shot it and made it because the goalie was out of position. It went right over him to tie up the game 1-1.

Minooka had the momentum after that and had many chances but could not score. Andrew also had many chances but could not capitalize on any of them.

The game ended in a tie 1-1.

Throughout the season, the team has shown many improvements after the rough start and is starting to look better with every game.

¨The boys have shown lots of improvements. The communication, intensity, and strength have been a big improvement for the team’s success,¨ coach Mike Groark said.
