The Hard Hat in the weight room is part of a new philosophy for the football players.

The Hard Hat: 21 Ways to Be a Great Teammate was written by Jon Gordan, and the MCHS football team has put that philosophy into practice.

They are seeing how big of an impact it has for the team or even the whole football program.

The idea is that our players will come to practice, punch the clock, and give a blue collar, workman-like effort every day,” said assistant coach Nick Micetich “We tell them, ‘Come to practice, do YOUR job, and work as hard as you can.’”

Bringing this to the program makes the players in the program better men but also better players.

“I think it’s a good idea because it brings good leadership qualities,” Brady Barrowman, junior football player. “I felt glad that I could express some things to the team and give them a little bit of my thoughts.”

Barrowman is a role model for the offense guys and he will have a big role in the success of this year’s team

“I think it will help people think in a new way and change the mindset of people on the team,” Matteo Pullara, junior football player. “I felt indifferent because I didn’t know what lesson I was going to have, but one of my teammates told me the lesson was kindness.”

The people that have been picked so far and their lessons are Carson Johnson: Lesson #1: Sweat More; Aidan Martinez: Lesson #2: Well Done > Well Said; Brady Barrowman: Lesson #3: Choose to Be Humble and Hungry; Elliott Van Der Male: Lesson #4: Pursue Excellence; and Matteo Pullara: Lesson #5: Share Positive Contagious Energy.
