With school starting, that means the MCHS boy’s soccer season has begun.

The first game for the team was played against Lockport on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at home. The boys were able to clinch their first win of a score 3 -1, with goals scored by freshman Patrick Koenig (2), and sophomore Mariano Kotroba.

The Indians are hoping to improve their record from the 2015-16 season with seniors Kyle Sparks, Noah St. Paul, Austin Wielgosz, and Grant Ooms leading them on the path to success. Along with the seniors, Koenig serves as a promising addition to the team. Koenig already has five goals in his first two games at MCHS.

“[Koenig is] a great forward. I mean, Kyle and the others have set him up a lot, but he is a good addition to the team. He is really good at finishing. We are just a great team,” Tim Doody, junior, said.

“We’re going to be pretty good this year. We have to work really hard at practices and hopefully we will have some success,” Frank Thompson, sophomore, said.

Their big tournaments this year will be the Lemont tournament which began on Aug. 25.  The team earned a 4 -1 win against Aurora East with goals scored by Koenig (3) and Eric Lakota; the Lemont tournament will run till Sept. 6. Along with the Lemont tournament, the Indians will be playing in the PepsiCo tournament from Sept. 10 to the 16.  

Doody, a skilled defender for the Indians, said, “Our team goal for the season is to come out at the top of the conference. The team is hoping to improve on communication and teamwork.”

The defense for the Indians is a huge factor in their success. They only allowed three shots on goal in the first game. The defense is lead by seniors St.Paul and Wielgosz, along with Doody.

The boys soccer team has been working out since early August to prepare for their 2016-17 season, and they feel like they will be able to win some key games later in the season to clinch the Conference and Regional Championship.
