Jayla Morales plays varsity tennis for Minooka and is on the No. 1 doubles team. She has been playing tennis since freshman year. This interview with Nook News has been edited for clarity and length.
Q: How many years of tennis have you been playing?
A: Four years, started freshman year.
Q: What have you learned playing tennis?
A: To be a good teammate to her (doubles partner Emma Deitz) because it’s not really a big team on doubles.
Q: Has anyone in your family played this sport?
A: My older sister. I’ve always had that mindset to be better than her.
Q: What makes you and Emma Dietz a good doubles team?
A: We both have really good communication between each other. We cheer each other up on good and bad points.
Q:How do you feel you’ve both played this year?
A: So far we’ve won two games we’ve played this year (as of Sept. 1) and are hoping to win the conference this year.
Q: Are you ready for any upcoming matches?
A: Yes. Plainfield North. They are a really good competition that we have to get ready for.
Q: If you couldn’t play this sport what would you play instead?
A: I would probably try swimming.
Q: What is your individual goal for this season?
A: To try and get a scholarship this year.
Q: Favorite celebrity?
A: Serena Williams.
Q: What is your favorite kind of racket?
A: Probably Head or Babolat.
