Bears win first game over Raiders

Going into the 2015 NFL regular season, the Bears had very low expectations. The injuries were piling up, and the roster was being cut down in its tracks. They were projected by many to be the worst team in the entire league.

Through the first three games of the season it looked as though they were going to live up to the expectations of being bad, losing to the Packers, Cardinals, and Seahawks quite convincingly.

Disaster was approaching. With the Oakland Raiders coming into town as the 7th-ranked offense in the league, it was very possible the Bears would be 0-4.

Then some light began to shine at the end of a very dark tunnel. Quarterback Jay Cutler, who injured his hamstring in Week 2 against the Cardinals, was cleared to play. This was perhaps the biggest thing the Bears needed in order to claim victory.

Against the Raiders, the Bears played their best all around game yet, winning with a score of 22-20. The score did not do much justice of how much the Bears outplayed Oakland. They outgained the Raiders in yards with 371-243.

The defense was outstanding. They were lead by captain linebacker Pernell McPhee, who recorded 8 tackles, and an interception. Derek Carr was under pressure the entire game, and it showed, he threw and interception and fumbled the football once.

Despite only scoring 22 points, the Bears’ offense played solid, both rushing and throwing the football. Matt Forte lead the ground attack, gaining 91 yards on 25 carries. He was able to continue the great success he has had so far this year (top three in NFL in rushing).

Cutler had a solid game all around, despite throwing one interception. He threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns. With less than 2:30 to go on the clock, Cutler drove the Bears down the field, and put kicker Robbie Gould in the position to win the game.

As the clock was winding down, Gould drilled a 49-yard field goal to give the Bears their first win of the 2015 season.
