After a rough start, the Minooka sophomore football team claimed their third win of the season against Joliet West on Sept. 20.
After the Indians lost the ball on the opening kick return, West recovered the ball and marched down the field. But the Indians defense was able to hold off the Tigers, giving the ball back to the offense.
The Indians offensive drive started off promising with sophomore quarterback Nathan Danielson completing passes to sophomore Alex Workman. But a pick gave West back the ball with momentum
“ The game started off rough but once we figured out how to handle their defense it went well,” Danielson said.
The Indians defense, led by Gavin Dupree, held strong throughout the game giving life back into the offense. After a 51-yard pass to Workman, the Indians were in West’s red zone. The Indians would end the drive with a rushing touchdown taking the lead 7-0 Minooka.
Defense continued to hold back the Tigers offense, putting the Indians back with the ball. Minooka was pinned deep in their own territory from a deep punt by West.
A 51-yard rush by sophomore Quinn Schiffbauer brought the Indians down the field. Danielson ran into the end zone for his first high school rushing touchdown adding another 6 to the Indians.
“We didn’t play the best but we pulled out with the win,” Dupree said.
The Minooka defense held strong throughout the game only allowing 12 points throughout the game.
Minooka would come through with the win over Joliet 27-12 increasing the Indians record to 3-1.
Quinn Schiffbauer is a member of the sophomore football team.
