Minooka’s F/S boys wrestling team had eight champions and took 2nd overall at the Coal City Fresh/Soph Invitational on Dec. 6.

Sophomore Payton Johnson was one of the many wrestlers that took first at the meet winning all four of his matches at the 138-pound weight class.

“I did pretty good, took first, it was a really tough competition and I think I improved a lot during each match but I’m just happy I came out on to,” Johnson said.

Sophomore Christian Paramo took first at the 120-pound weight class with 3 pins and a major decision win in his first match.

“I felt like I did good but there was still a lot to improve on like scoring and conditioning,” Paramo said. “I think my energy and everyone else’s got better throughout the tournament and that is why we did well.”

All of Minooka’s first-place winners and tournament placers helped the team place 2nd just 30 points behind Yorkville.

“Someone else that wrestled well was Sully Lipscomb. 

Paramo said. “I thought he wrestled well, he took first too, and he watched all my matches so he’s a good teammate, too.”

Other winners for Minooka were Aidan Carroll, Colton Coughlen, Ethan Heap, and Yirmeyahu Lishman.
