Minooka’s sophomore baseball team dominated at home against Joliet Central on April 6, winning 24-1 in 3 innings to improve to 4-0.

This was their biggest win of the season, tallying 8 runs in the first and 16 in the second on 13 hits, 7 walks and 5 stolen bases while only allowing 1 run and 1 hit throughout the game. 

Landon Sopkin led the team on offense going 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles with 5 RBI and scoring 3 runs.

“The hardest part of that game was making sure we stayed focused towards the end of the game,” Sopkin said. 

Nolan Anderson also contributed with 2 hits of his own with 1 walk and scoring 3 times. Along with that the Tribe put up a 7:0 ball-strike ratio.

“I primarily focused on making sure I wait back on the ball and take it to the opposite field,” Anderson said, “We all worked together to make sure we got the outcome we wanted.”

On the defensive side, Minooka recorded zero errors with Cooper Hill on the bump. Hill threw a total of 48 pitches with a 63% strike rate punching out 5 of 11 in 3 innings. 

“This was a fun game overall and a good outing for me on the mound,” Hill said, “The defense behind me was one of the main reasons we were able to keep the pressure on the whole.”

Some more honorable performances happened with Colton Francisco going 2 for 4 with 5 RBI and Levi Klein going 1 for 2 with a walk and 3 RBI, and Sopkin recording 2 hits each from both sides of the plate.

This was a great win Minooka continuing their domination heading into the middle of the season.
