On April 6, the varsity baseball team headed to Joliet Central to face the Steelmen.

With starting pitcher Joey Rutz, a junior, on the mound, the Indians hoped to bounce back after a tough loss against Joliet West the game before.

Rutz threw 3 shutout innings for the Indians, surrendering only one hit and had no walks.

“After the loss to Joliet West we were hungry for a win,” Rutz said. “It was time for a win so I felt very confident out there that I was gonna be the guy who would bring that to the table.”

The Indians would end up bouncing back by winning with a score of 12-0 against the Steelman. 

Leading the offense for the Indians was junior Kyle Rodak. Rodak was three for four, with 2 RBI, a double, and 2 runs.

“We got stuck in traffic on the bus ride there and that brought a lot of energy to our game,” Rodak said. “Going three for four brought a lot of confidence to myself and I have been hitting a lot better.” 

Head coach Jeff Petrovic felt like the game was a good bounce back and the team played clean.

“I thought the guys played relatively solid in the game against Central,” Petrovic said. “It was really nice to get a lot of guys opportunities and reps in that game and still play a good game”. 

The Indians look to improve their record prior to heading into conference play, in hopes to build confidence and keep the momentum.
