The Minooka girls track and field team placed first in a triangular meet with Oswego East and Joliet West on April 7.

The girls had an amazing start to their outdoor track season with some individuals placing.

Sophomore Clara Getsoian placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.45.

“The best thing I did during that first outdoor meet was how I did in the 800. I pushed at the end of the first 100 and then I did end up PRing. But the most challenging part was staying on in the 800 with the good competition,” said Getsoian.

Getsoian pushed hard in the 800 but she also ended up getting first in the 4×400-meter relay with Brooke Stanojlovic, Chelsi Heyob, and Brooklyn Leathers. 

Another spotlight for these athletes would be the 4×100-meter relay with Lyla Cazares, Lydia Michalesko, Kailey Jefferson, Chrishawna Clark. The girls placed first. 

“That was a great first run for us,” assistant coach Matt Thomas said. “Their hand-offs were near perfect, and the time they ran was faster than any time in school history except for last year.”

On the field side, sophomore Penelope McCollom placed first in the pole vault with a jump of 3.30 meters (10-10).

“I prepare for my meet by watching old videos of me pole vaulting and watching carefully to fix what I need to fix and clean up any mistakes before I go out there and do well,” said McCollom.

McCollom always tries to stay on top of the leader and makes sure she is always doing her part and doing well.
